My love for black cats goes back to my early childhood when my older sister had a black cat name Missy. She was the first pet to which I was exposed as a child and I have been fond of black cats ever since.

Since an early age I dreamed of breeding pets as a business. My first attempt with cats was with Siamese in the 1970s while I was in college. Unfortunately due to housing constraints I was unable to continue my breeding program at that time.
It was not until 2013 when I obtained my first Bombay dam, Joan Jett, from Rokstarr was I able to begin my Bombay breeding program.

When I first started selling kittens my tax accountant warned me to collect and pay sales tax. He spoke of farmers who sold puppies without charging sales tax suddenly having the state demanding payment of back taxes on all their sales, with interest and penalties. Also, in Iowa there is no statute of limitations on past sales taxes due. Laws in your state may be different, but if you are breeding and selling animals you really should find out about your tax liability.
As for me I charge sales tax on all my sales. For a time I included the sales tax in the price. After all, I did not really want to flag others who are not collecting sales tax. Now I am charging sales tax on top of the sales price. While I have no interest in getting anyone in trouble, there is not anyone I am working with directly in Iowa that I would be putting in jeopardy by being open about collecting sales tax.
All sales are consider to take place in Washington County, Iowa for both tax and legal considerations.

One thing that interests me is how many of my clients have such strong biases toward one gender or another in choosing a kitten. Perhaps it is a major factor with other breeds, but with Bombays I find both plenty social and interested in whatever you are doing, whether it me typing at the computer or cleaning litter boxes.

At least two of these kittens are females.
There is a reason(s) I have drawers for my keyboards.
While males do tend to be a bit more outgoing, the kitten that jumps in my lap is as likely to be female as male.
Admittedly my view is a bit different than most pet owners. As a breeder my cats are intact and intact females are generally suitable house pets whereas intact male usually need to be confined to an enclosure.
As an a home based Iowa state licensed commercial breeding I am limited to six adult animals. That does not leave much room for permanent pets. I enjoy their company while they are kittens and during their breeding careers. My dams can generally run loose in my home, but the sires cannot. Neutered cats on the other hand generally tend to lose their male-female extremes.
